Today I am going to provide the second part of my “shoulder saving tips,” which are my shoulder do’s. Again, this two-part series is in response to numerous questions I get each week from patients and clients as well as from my observations in watching people at the gym.
As we see more and more shoulder injuries in our clinic, one of the places our patients commonly hurt their shoulder is at the gym.
Unfortunately, what people do not know or realize is there are common exercises and approaches that many perform at the gym that may set people up for an injury.
We all have that one crazy relative. I know I’m not the only one that has heard “I can tell that it’s going to rain later on today because my knee, hip, and shoulder are getting achy.” Many individuals dealing with some form of arthritis experience this phenomenon. Although it is not a 100% proven theory, decreases in barometric pressure prior to rain are thought to cause tissue adaptations that decrease support and increase joint stress.
How do you know what you or your family will be eating at your next meal or tomorrow’s meals? Meal planning is challenging for the average family. When you add in practice, commutes, school, work and family commitments, it can become pretty complicated. While there is no one right or wrong way to do meal planning, the key is to think ahead and have some ideas planned.

I have the great fortune to be around sports every day. Professionally I work with young, injured athletes and help them get back to competing with their teams again. Personally, I have a young son who has started the process of playing organized sports.
